Ginzawa @ Orchard, Singapore

We have read some good reviews about this restaurant and decided to give it a try for Father’s Day dinner.

It is located in the Palais Renaissance mall on Orchard Road, which is a rather quiet shopping mall a bit off from the busiest part of Orchard Road.
IMG_1355 IMG_1356 IMG_1359 These were ordered for the kids….these weren’t extraordinary but were fine dishes for kidsIMG_1362 Beef Inaniwa Udon IMG_1367

Cold Soba with Black Pork and Hot Soup DipIMG_1369

Chawanmushi – portion was big enough for two kids to share. Perfectly steamed.

IMG_1387

Ebi Salad – there were tiny fresh shrimps and tiny dried shrimps, nice saladIMG_1364Beef Tataki – very good beef, tender, slightly seared
IMG_1370

Aburi sushi set – delicious! I actually preferred aburi sushi when it comes to the more oily fishes. IMG_1366

This is the deluxe version of their chirashi don – a must try dish!! Fresh and high qualify fish and seafood.  They offer it in their lunch set menu but also offer as an ala carte item for dinner.IMG_1360

“House Maki” – caviar, uni, minced toro on top; shrimp and yellow pickle in the middle.  And it is maki size!  Another must try!  Very satisfying!
IMG_1372

Salmon skin roll – this was a very pleasant surprise – at other restaurants, I usually would wish they will put in more salmon skin but apparently here is not a problem.IMG_1374

Great dinner overall, not cheap but very value for money.  High quality Japanese sushi always come with a price anyway.

We will definitely come back again as this has become my favourite Japanese restaurant in Singapore! 🙂

Exploring Bangkok

Exploring the city of Bangkok by BTS or subway is an excellent option if you don’t like getting stuck in traffic and can bear with the heat outdoor.

BTS Station off peak hours

Most buses in Bangkok are like this.  This one was parking on the road side and waiting for passengers. IMG_0579

Street food is everywhere.  IMG_0578 Grilled bananas.IMG_0581 IMG_0582 This is the food court area in Siam Paragon – very large area with a lot of different type of restaurants.  IMG_0586 We tried one of the Thai noodle place – good tender beef with noodleIMG_0587 Their tom yam soup with prawns was just mildly spicy – easy for tourists.IMG_0588 There are also stalls with local food.IMG_0590 IMG_0591 We also visited the Chatuchak Weekend Market – a lot of stalls along the way from the BTS station leading up to the marketIMG_0690 IMG_0691Inside Chatuchak Market – the place is huge!  They have everything you can think of!

IMG_0698 IMG_0699 Or Tor Tor Market is next to Chatuchak…IMG_0700 IMG_0702 IMG_0703 IMG_0704 IMG_0705

Issaya Siamese Club @ Bangkok, Thailand

This is one of the acclaimed Thai restaurant in Bangkok.  It is hidden in some residential area in the city and best to go by taxi.  Very beautiful interior with a casual ambience.

We chose one of the set menu.IMG_0749

Refreshing passion fruit ice tea.IMG_0712 Complimentary appetizer – tuna, shrimp & egg saladIMG_0718 IMG_0719 IMG_0720 Pork ribsIMG_0727Salad – quite spicy
IMG_0728 BeefIMG_0729 Lamb Shank – big portion for two!IMG_0732

Rice – my favourite dish of the meal, flavourful! IMG_0734 Prawns – juicy!IMG_0751 Chicken – some parts are a bit dry but others are goodIMG_0754 Panna cotta IMG_0758 Homemade marshmallows IMG_0759 A corner of the buildingIMG_0760Food were nicely cooked overall.  Portions are big and we weren’t able to finish everything.  They certainly use herbs and spices but it did not feel overwhelming.

I would recommend this restaurant for a relaxing romantic dinner out and probably even better with a big group of friends!

J’AIME by Jean-Michel Lorain @ Bangkok, Thailand

This is a new French restaurant located in a new hotel.  The place is not easy to find so best to go by taxi.

Very spacious restaurant with high ceiling.  I imagine it will be very comfortable during the day as well.

There are two tasting menu, 6-course and 9-course and we went for the 9-course.

IMG_0618

Very pretty cocktail – the middle was passion fruit ice cube.IMG_0615

IMG_0608 IMG_0609

The restaurant goes the Asian way for food sharing and they serve their dishes by placing them in the center turn table. I guess it would be more interesting if there are more people at the table.  And it soon became a bit of a nuisance when hot dishes came and the plates were hot.

IMG_0616

Oyster – the most impressive part of this dish was actually the green leaf on the upper left side…it is called the “oyster leaf” and it actually tasted like oyster!!

Pigeon – perfectly done

Dessert were a bit too sweet for my taste but nevertheless finished most of it

The restaurant kindly arranged a slice of cake and candle for my hubby.

Overall it was a very enjoyable meal.  Excellent ingredients and perfect cooking.  Cocktails were good.  Very value for money.  Highly recommended!
